Barium carbonate is a barium salt with the chemical formula BaCO₃.

In terms of appearance, it is a white powder. It has a relatively high density of about 4.43 g/cm³. Its solubility in water is very low, making it a sparingly soluble substance.

Chemically, it can react with acids. For example, it reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce barium chloride, carbon dioxide, and water. When heated, it decomposes; at around 1300°C, it decomposes into barium oxide and carbon dioxide. It is a strong electrolyte and can fully ionize in a molten state.
