QQ Academic Group: 1092348845

Detailed

Eero Kontturi, Olli Ikkala and Nonappa from Aalto University in Finland reviewed the research progress of nanocellulose and its application in biology and bionics.

The main points of this article: (1) Among many sustainable advanced functional materials, nanocellulose has recently attracted wide attention from researchers. The types of nanocellulose include rod-shaped high-crystalline cellulose nanocrystals and longer cellulose nanofibers, also known as microfibrillated cellulose and bacterial cellulose. In recent years, nanocellulose has been widely used in many fields, including nanocomposites, viscosity modifiers, films, barrier layers, fibers, gels, aerogels and foams, and energy applications. However, how to control the interaction of nanocellulose and realize its controllable assembly is still an urgent research challenge to be solved.

(2) The author reviews the latest research progress of nanocellulose in the article; then, the author introduces some hybrid gels, including stimulus-responsive, shape memory materials, self-healing, adhesion and gluing, and biological scaffolds, etc. ; Finally, the author also discussed the application of composite fibers and nanocellulose in improving the production of chemicals based on photosynthesis, pointing out a new direction for the development of sustainable, high-tech functional materials based on nanocellulose.
