Graphene oxide (GO) is a very promising nanomaterial due to its surface multifunctionality through functional group substitution and controllable d-spacing. However, the most common method for preparing GO is chemical exfoliation based on strong oxidants, forming dispersed sheets used to create films of aggregated sheets. Nevertheless, due to their discontinuous and amorphous nature, such GO films have poor thermal, electronic, and mechanical properties. Here, we report a novel rapid method for obtaining large and continuous multilayer GO films by directly converting chemical vapor deposition multilayer graphene (CVD-MG) into graphene oxide (CVD-MGO).Our oxidation procedure uses CVD-MG grown on nickel (CVD-MG/Ni), combining a mild acid mixture with the mechanical support of the nickel foil to oxidize CVD-MG without tearing the substrate. XPS, EDX, and Raman spectroscopy confirm that MG is completely converted to CVD-MGO. XRD also shows that the crystallinity of CVD-MGO is higher than that of Flake-GO films. By reducing the continuous CVD-MGO, we obtained conductive reduced GO (CVD-rGO), with conductivity reaching 80% of the original CVD-MG conductivity. We directly converted CVD-MG to CVD-MGO, showing great promise for improved GO transport properties and enhanced filtration and molecular separation performance. Reaching 80% of the original CVD-MG conductivity, we directly converted CVD-MG to CVD-MGO, demonstrating significant potential for improved GO transport properties and enhanced filtration and molecular separation performance.
