Angewandte Chemie International Edition | A Local Flexible Dynamic Valve for Temperature-Programmed Guest Release and Hydrogen Isotope Separation in Metal-Organic Frameworks

source:material synthesis Views:2time:2026-10-20material synthesis: 1092348845

已传文件:photo/1792487933.png Controlling the release temperature of guest molecules in porous materials and regulating adsorption capacity are equally important. However, in traditional materials, desorption behavior is mostly determined by adsorption site energy and the heating program, making it hard to programmatically adjust the release temperature. This work compares two isomorphic MOFs, C₄‑IRMOF and C₅‑IRMOF, and uses long alkoxy side chains at the C₅‑IRMOF pores to build thermally responsive local flexible gates. Without relying on strong adsorption sites, the pore opening and closing are controlled by the thermal motion of the side chains, allowing the release temperature of guest molecules to be determined by the adsorption loading temperature.

Low-temperature thermal desorption spectroscopy revealed that the desorption peak temperature varies synchronously with the adsorption temperature, forming a novel adsorption-temperature programmed desorption mechanism. This locally confined pore environment can also achieve kinetic quantum sieving of hydrogen isotopes at 100 K. The study shows that simply modifying the flexible side chains at the pore mouth can regulate guest release behavior, providing a simple and feasible new approach for designing porous adsorption materials.
