Detailed
Achievements
Dimensional (2D) materials, often referred to as "magic materials", are considered to be the next-generation solutions to many problems in today‘s world, from energy storage to environmental protection. However, despite the expectations and efforts of the scientific community, few 2D materials have achieved a leap from laboratory to industrial use. The main reason is that the production of most 2D materials is very small, expensive and other factors, and it is not feasible to bring it to market for mass application. MXenes, the most promising class of 2D materials, including transition metal carbides, nitrides, and carbonitrides, have good application prospects in communications, energy technology, and other fields. They are prepared using scalable selective etching methods and have the potential to transition from laboratory to industrial production. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to deeply explore and explore the relationship between synthesis-structure-performance, more diverse MXene structures and compounds, and optimization of the synthesis process. Recently, Professor Yury Gogotsi of Drexel University in the United States published a research paper titled: Taking MXenes from the lab to commercial products in the internationally renowned academic journal Chemical Engineering Journal, exploring the progress of MXenes materials from the laboratory to commercial applications. The factors that need to be considered in the paper, and the future development direction is prospected.

Summary of this article
As researchers, we have an obligation to consider the feasibility and impact of research. 2D materials have great potential, but they still have some limitations. We must consider the issues of preparation, abundance and safety before conducting application-oriented research, otherwise, it is an irresponsible performance of the time and resources we use. Overcoming these challenges is a key factor in the widespread use of 2D materials. For MXenes, most of the current research papers are focused on their applications, but more research focus should be on their basic properties, what is essentially what gives MXenes such excellent properties and functions, and how can we further Control and enhance its performance?
