Professor Chen Da of China Jiliang University and Academician Li Jinghong of Tsinghua University reviewed the application of ultra-small Au nanoclusters in bioanalysis and biomedicine and the effects of ligands on their catalytic performance.

Key points of this article:

(1) The difference from traditional Au nanoparticles is that ultra-small gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) composed of several to several hundred Au atoms have significant quantum confinement effects, inherent chirality, and special fluorescence. Performance and high catalytic activity. With its unique molecular electronic structure, excellent physical and chemical properties, mild preparation conditions and good biocompatibility, Au NCs is used in biosensing, bioimaging, cell labeling, drug delivery, photodynamic/photothermal therapy and biological Bioanalysis and biomedical applications such as medical toxicology have played an important role. As an indispensable part of Au NCs, shell ligands not only stabilize and protect the structure of Au NCs, but also have an important influence on the structure and biocatalytic activity of Au NCs. However, the impact of shell ligands on the biocatalytic activity of Au NCs has not attracted enough attention.

(2) In the article, the author discussed the structure and biocatalytic activity of Au NCs from the perspective of shell ligands, and focused on the role of shell ligands in the biocatalytic activity of Au NCs. These effects are useful for elucidating the charge transfer of Au NCs. Behavior and biocatalytic processes are of great significance; in addition, the author also discussed the impact of shell ligands on the biocatalytic activity of Au NCs and related research directions, including surface ligand engineering of Au NCs, surface interface in-situ characterization technology, and theory Analysis and nanobiology of Au NCs, etc.
