Due to its inherent anti-cancer activity, biodegradable inorganic nanomaterials have opened up new prospects for cancer treatment. Black phosphorous nanosheets (BPs) have unique biological activities and have recently been recognized as promising cancer therapeutics, but their application is plagued by difficulties in surface functionalization. In view of this, researchers such as Yu Xuefeng and Zhou Wenhua of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, described in situ calcium phosphate (CaP) mineralization strategies to enhance the anti-cancer activity of BPs. The main points of this article 1) By using BP as a phosphate source and growth template, the synthesized CaP mineralized BP (CaBP) retains the inherent characteristics of BP, and has high loading capacity for various fluorophores, which enables effective biological imaging And tracer.
Preparation and characterization
2) Compared with BPs, CaBPs show stronger selective anti-cancer activity due to the improvement of the pH response degradation behavior of cancer cells and intracellular Ca2+ overload. In addition, CaBP specifically targets mitochondria and causes structural damage, leading to mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis in cancer cells.
Fluorophore loading and intracellular delivery capacity of CaBPs
3) After intravenous injection, CaBPs target breast cancer cells in situ to inhibit tumor growth without adverse effects or toxicity.
Anti-tumor effect in vivo
The results of this study show that CaBPs have great potential as targeted anticancer agents, and the CaP mineralization method provides a general surface functionalization strategy for nano therapeutic agents.
