Tumor hypoxia can greatly reduce the efficacy of oxygen-related treatment strategies. The magneto-thermodynamic anti-cancer strategy can use the magnetocaloric effect to decompose the priming reagent to generate free radicals that are not related to oxygen, thereby inducing tumor cell apoptosis and inhibiting tumors in vivo and in vitro. Professor Huang Beijian of Fudan University, Associate Professor Xiang Huijing and Professor Chen Yu of Shanghai University constructed in situ a multifunctional nanoparticle MnFe2O4@CoFe2O4(Mag) coated with mesoporous silica, superparamagnetic Mn and Co doped. It has a mesoporous structure that can effectively load starting reagents, and the inner core can act as an in-situ heat source driven by an alternating magnetic field (AMF).






Key points of this article:

(1) When exposed to exogenous AMF, Mags magnetic core will rapidly decompose the loaded/delivered priming reagent (AIPH) through the magnetocaloric effect, thereby generating free radicals that have nothing to do with oxygen.







(2) In the hypoxic tumor microenvironment, the magnetocaloric effect and toxic free radicals driven by AMF will synergistically promote the death of cancer cells and inhibit tumor growth. In summary, this research has developed a new type of nanogenerator that has nothing to do with oxygen, which provides a new strategy for realizing AM-initiated cancer co-treatment.
