1. Article overview
In the era of the Internet of Things, there is an urgent need for multifunctional intelligent fireproof cotton fabrics. Recently, the research team of teachers Xingrong Zeng and Xuejun Lai of South China University of Technology used an eco-friendly layer-by-layer assembly method to coat MXene nanosheets and carboxymethyl chitosan (CCS) on the fabric, thereby developing a temperature-sensitive, fire-resistant A new type of fireproof and safe cotton fabric (called MXene/CCS@CF) with piezoresistance and Joule heating properties. Related research work was published on the internationally renowned academic journal ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces (IF=8.758) with the title "Multifunctional MXene/Chitosan-Coated Cotton Fabric for Intelligent Fire Protection". What are the application prospects of materials with high temperature resistance and flame retardant functions? This work gives an answer. In practical applications, circuits and other electronic devices integrated with the material should also have high temperature resistance, and we look forward to subsequent development.
In this work, thanks to the thermoelectric properties and high conductivity of MXene nanosheets, MXene/CCS@CF has accurate and wide-range temperature sensing performance. When burning, the fabric will repeatedly trigger the fire warning system in less than 10 seconds. More importantly, due to the synergistic carbonization between MXene and CCS, MXene/CCS@CF has excellent flame retardancy. After the vertical combustion test, the limiting oxygen index of MXene/CCS@CF is as high as 45.5%, and the coke length is only 33 mm. At the same time, its peak heat release rate has been reduced by more than 66%. In addition, the obtained fabric can detect various human movements. In addition, the controllable Joule heating performance allows the fabric to be used in extremely cold weather. This work provides a simple method for manufacturing the next generation of highly fireproof and safe cotton fabrics, and demonstrates the application prospects in fire protection, home automation and intelligent transportation.
