Huang Jinsong‘s team found that the charge collection efficiency in tin-based perovskite batteries is limited by the length of electron diffusion. The addition of a small amount of Cd3+ to the perovskite precursor reduces the electron trap density, resulting in a long electron diffusion length of 2.72 ± 0.15 microns. The optimized thickness of the narrow band gap perovskite film is increased to 1000 nm.

For single-junction narrow-bandgap PSC and perovskite-perovskite-stacked cells, efficiencies of 20.2 and 22.7% were obtained, respectively. This work provides a promising approach to enhancing the optoelectronic properties of narrow-bandgap perovskites and developing the potential of perovskite-perovskite tandem solar cells.
