3.German researchers find MXene material helps make faster-charging batteries
Recently, scientists at the Helmholtz Berlin Center for Energy and Materials Research (HZB) found that MXene materials will greatly improve the energy storage capacity of titanium-based "MXene" quasi-capacitors (also known as pseudocapacitors) and can produce Faster charging battery. The scientists studied the carbon-based MXene Ti3C2Tx material on a BESSY synchrotron device, and analyzed samples of the material in vacuum and in water using soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The analysis results show that the insertion of urea molecules in the MXene layer will significantly change the electrochemical performance of the material and increase the energy storage capacity of the material by 56%. Scientists said that the oxidation state of titanium atoms on the surface of Ti3C2Tx MXene can also be observed through X-PEEM (a test station of the synchrotron facility). When urea is present, this oxidation state is higher, which helps to store more energy. . MXenes is a two-dimensional material first discovered in 2011 and is an emerging area of interest for energy storage scientists. Although research on MXene materials is still in its early stages, it has shown strong potential in the field of energy storage.
