Qian Zhiyong Nano Today from Sichuan University: Directional swimming towards tumors, mitochondria coated with Janus nano system enhances tumor treatment

source:beike new material Views:4182time:2020-10-12 QQ Academic Group: 1092348845

The inability of the therapeutic agent to penetrate the tumor tissue sufficiently leads to insufficient distribution of the therapeutic agent and a decrease in intracellular concentration, resulting in drug resistance and treatment failure. Specific administration of solid tumors, followed by high permeability and persistent retention, will help improve current chemotherapy. For this reason, Qian Zhiyong and others from Sichuan University meticulously designed and developed an intelligent Janus-like surface-coated mitochondrial system, which uses its chemotaxis to accumulate tumors and can improve cancer treatment.

Key points of this article:
1) The system can imitate natural bacteria, use glucose as fuel, swim towards the tumor, and spontaneously penetrate the depth of the tumor tissue, and keep it for a long time.

2) In addition, the delivered healthy mitochondria can help activate and transmit apoptosis signals, thereby enhancing the therapeutic performance of the commercial anticancer drug epirubicin. Unlike other strategies, modified mitochondria act like natural biological systems and can actively accumulate in tumors under the action of glucose gradients in the microenvironment.
In summary, this unique organelle-material complex will be a very promising candidate material against multidrug resistance in future chemotherapy.
