Anhydrous trichloride iridium (IrCl₃) has poor solubility and requires targeted selection of solvents and auxiliary conditions. The core dissolution method is as follows:
1. Main dissolution scheme
Aqueous alkaline solvent system (preferred): Use concentrated hydrochloric acid (37%) heated to 60-80°C, stir for 1-2 hours. IrCl₃ reacts with hydrochloric acid to form soluble chloroiridium acid (H₃IrCl₆), achieving the highest dissolution efficiency.
Coordination dissolution method: Use anhydrous ethanol, add a small amount of potassium chloride (KCl) as a coordinating agent, reflux for 30 minutes, form a stable coordination compound and then dissolve.
Aqueous solution system: First, grind IrCl₃ in a mortar, add deionized water, ultrasonicate for 15 minutes, then adjust the pH to 1-2, stir at room temperature for 4-6 hours to slowly dissolve.
2. Key precautions
Avoid direct cold dissolution with pure water (solubility is extremely low), do not heat above 100°C to prevent decomposition; after dissolution, it needs to be sealed for storage to prevent hydrolysis or volatilization of chloroiridium acid.
